1. English/Journalism/AP Teacher
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the school individually and through the English department-sponsored events
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified administrative regulations and procedures of DeBakey High School
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps accurate attendance and grade records
- Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions, and field trips
- Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught
- Communicates with parents, team leaders, and school counselors on student progress
- Supervises students in assigned out of classroom activities during the working day
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
- Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instructions based on students’ individual needs and measure it against the school learning outcomes
- Present content according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Work with other faculty members to determine instructional goals, objectives and strategies
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Plan and monitor work flow of instructional assistants and volunteers as appropriate
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing, provide feedback to students and parents, and reflect on teaching
- Support mission and vision of DeBakey School by serving as a positive role model for students
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to students, parents, and staff
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community
- Participate in staff development activities that improve job-related skills and professional growth
- Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
- Create an environment of respect and rapport
- Provide feedback to students
- Coordinate and supervise field trips with the help of team leaders
- Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, and students’ recognition ceremonies, graduation and open house
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in English Literature/Language, from an accredited college/university. (Masters preferred)
- Teaching License/Certificate preferred
- Teaching experience in accredited schools
- Trained in AP Literature/Language

- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or other administrative staff, which is consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree, but preferred Master’s degree from an accredited college/university
- Teaching License/Certificate preferred
- Teaching experience in accredited schools
- Current licensure, certification or registration by a nationally recognized accrediting agency as a health professions practitioner (Health Care worker preferred with two-years long-term care experience)
- Two years of full-time wage-earning experience as a health professions practitioner utilizing one or more of the licensure(s) required for practice in a specific health profession
