Newsletter #1 DeBakey Recognizes Student Achievements

Each cycle DeBakey High School celebrates students’ achievements. This event shows the school’s efforts to give due recognition to students who are performing well and to motivate others to do their best to excel in their classes.
Students, teachers, staff and parents were present to recognize students Cycle 1 Honor Roll Award recipients. Students who achieved all A’s in all their classes, received the ‘Honor Roll’ certificate and students with All A’s and one B, received the ‘High Achiever’ certificate.
Additionally, ‘DeBakey Citizenship’ certificates are awarded to students who have applied the core values of DeBakey (Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, and Honesty).
During interviews with some award recipients, a Grade 9 student Malak Ayoub, who received both the Honor Roll and Citizenship awards, said that she felt proud for receiving these awards. “I am motivated to continue getting these awards,” she added.
Another student, Jana Altay, from Grade 6, received High Achiever, and Citizenship awards. She exclaimed, “I feel happy and I want to continue because it raises my self-esteem.”
Khalifa Al Abdullah, a senior (Grade 12) who got a High Achiever Award, and Ali Al Kuradaghi, a Grade 11 student who received an Honor Award, said that they want to continue to do their best so that they may earn other awards too.
The rational of the high Achiever Award is to give students “a chance to be rewarded and celebrate their success,” as well as to “motivate them” to keep on earning good grades.
“The importance of the method of selecting the citizenship awards is to ensure DeBakey students apply the school core values while communicating with all faculty and staff. They made us proud” Mrs. Sbaitah noted.
