Note from the Director
We are very excited for the 2014 – 2015 school year at DeBakey High School! Our teachers have developed outstanding lesson plans to ensure students are engaged and enlightened. A monthly newsletter will keep you abreast on school happenings and important messages we would like to share with you.
Parent Commitment
It is vital that every student receive reinforcement at home. We encourage all of our parents to ask their child questions about the academic instruction he or she is receiving everyday.
Simple positive questions to ask:
- What was the best thing that happened at school today? (What was the worst thing that happened at school today?)
- When were you the happiest today?
- If I called your teacher tonight, what would he/she tell me about you?
- How did you help somebody today?
- Do you have homework today?
- Did you understand the topics discussed today?
To ensure students’ success, it is best for parents to inquire with their child to see if he or she needs additional help outside of the classroom. The more communication & interaction every parent has with the teachers, the better progress and success your child will be able to accomplish.
Summer Involvement
Summer is the perfect time to relax and recharge for the school year! During this time, we understand that some students participated in extended educational programs and community service projects. We want to know all about such experiences! If your child was recognized in the paper or received a participation certificate from an enriching summer program, please submit documentation to Justin L. Mabrie, Admissions Director, jmabrie@debakeyatqatar.org . It is very vital for 12th grade students to submit & document current community service hours.
